Masaza is a massage or manipulation of soft tissue or the organs of the body. Massage gives relief and in some cases treatment if applied to the affected part of the body. The purpose of the masaza can be physical, functional or psychological. Masaza is a French word for massage. In olden days masaza had its own place of treatment. The massage by oils, ointments, creams, lotions, medicinal or herbal preparations is in vogue.

Masaza is a spontaneous reaction to certain incidents as day injuries in children. It is a usual practice and belief that a regular massage by oil mostly olive oil helps develop muscles, bones and helps in digestion of the baby.. Masaza in parlours for both ladies and gents is quite popular. Parlor is a regular place for those who have the pocket and they take time out from the hectic schedule. There is a body and face massage. The cool or heated environment, calmness, comfortable and a firm table to lie down on, or a chair to sit upright, are all requirements for a favorable ambience of a massage. Massage is the most important part of facial. Body massage in the parlors or beach side leaves the body relaxed. In outdoor and indoor games the sports doctor usually treat through massage by spray or any analgesics. In pregnancy, the prenatal care includes masaza in sub continent. Massage centers offer training for massage as a therapy in many developed countries. Organ massage for example gastrointestinal, joints , tendons, ligaments, muscles are exterior as well as interior injury prone which get massage for instant relief from pain and at times prove to be permanent relief from ailment too. Hair massage with any oil increases blood flow and hence is effective in hair growth. Barefoot massage is effective in acupuncture as there are nerve endings and the basic understanding of the nerve paths helps in the treatment.
