Treating sun damaged skin is not that difficult. But before we talk about the treatment, let’s first see in what all ways the sun harms our skin.

The two primary effects of over exposure to the sun are – age spots, and wrinkles.

Age spots are those dark brown spots that develop on your body parts which have maximum exposure to the sun – face, shoulders, hands, and arms. The ultra violet rays of the sun cause more Melanin in the skin to be produced than normal. Due to the higher levels of melanin, it gets concentrated in some areas of the skin, which become darker in color and are what we know as age spots, or liver spots.

Wrinkles can also be formed by sun light. It dries our skin and breaks down the Collagen fibers in it. Collagen and Elastin are the two proteins which are primarily responsible for making our skin elastic and firm. When these proteins breakdown from the sunlight, the skin becomes loose and begins to sag in places. This causes fine lines and wrinkles to appear.

To avoid this damage cause the sun, protect your skin from being overly exposed to sun light. Apply a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15 or more when going out in the sun. Wear sunglasses and a broad rimmed hat to protect your eyes and face from direct sunlight.
